Colorado Health Insurance Plan
There are several good health insurance companies in Colorado. You’ll
find the Colorado policies offered are what are known as state specific.
This means these plans have included in them the specific requirements
of the State of Colorado. The legislature is responsible for adding those
requirements. These additions were considered nessesary to protect the
health of the insurance buying public. These mandated benefits have had
a negative impact on insurance premiums, so you can't say everyone
appreciates them. All plans require approval by the State's Insurance
Commisioner before it can be offered to the buying public.
The Insurance Commissioner approves the premiums and rate increases
for all insurance plans sold in the state. No one can sell the same plan
at a different rate than anybody else regardless of whom you buy it from.
this again is for the protection of the buying public.
Colorado Health Insurance Brokers
Even if you were to buy a health plan direct from an insurance company,
the rate will be the same as going through a broker. Brokers are paid by
the insurance companies and work for policyholders for free. While we are
on this point, it is usually better to go through a broker because they can
represent your interests, if you have any problems, with your insurance or
claims. Without the broker it’s just you, one of many, against the insurance
company. Brokers do earn their pay.
As far as health insurance premiums go, if you are coming from another
state, you will find the premiums to be at about the national average. Plan
benefits and area factors like zip codes and actuarial history determine
what the premiums will be in any particular area.
